drain plug problem

I am having a huge problem removing the drain plug from my 9N. The previous owner rounded it off some and I cannot seem to get a bite on the external 1" square.
I am not able to get a pipe wrench on it and the open end slips from the only position I can put it on.
I have heated it twice and I just can't loosen it. Any suggestions out there???

I FINALLY GOT THE PLUG OFF!
I ground down the suface, like you guys suggested and got a 3/4 wrench on it, real snug. I then heated the threads real well again and tapped with a small hammer around the perimeter.
It finally let loose with a LOT of sand and a couple of beers.
A new plug is now installed, my driveway is again smooth and my daughter is now schooled in how to tighten a drain plug.

Why can't you get a pipe wrench on it? If you can get an open end on it, then the correct size pipe wrench should also fit.

You have gotten good advice. Try heating, try fileing or grinding flats for a wrench or grips.. or pipe wrench... You can also try tapping it around with a chissle. If you start to get desperate and have a welder, weld a big nut tot he bottom. The heat will help break it loose.. plus you have a great place for a wrench after that..

On your new plug.. use a good gasket and don't torque it to 3000# like the previous owner did..

With a hand grinder, grind two flats on it and then use the vise grips. Heat from grinding is also a help to loosen, if you 'lean' on it and get the plug red.

have you tried vise grips? That coupled with a few raps with a hammer on the plug itself may loosen it up. Worked for me a couple of times.
