ok so i'm forced (by a dead battery- really dead) to switch back to a magneto with the discs still hitched and the tractor out in the field. so my magneto looks great inside, clean and it looks like new points. my manuals don't discuss the mag in detail so bare with me. under the top cap, not the distributer but the one on top with the one terminal, the two prongs of the magnet stick up, SOMETHING is supposed to be attached between these and this something then makes contact with the brass tab at the top of the cup. you all with me? i can see marks around the screw holes but the piece is gone? what would it be called so that i can buy a new one?
Thanks all.

That would be the coil. About $50 to $60.

Go to farmallmagneto.com. Jon can fix you up.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense, mag has been converted to battery ignition, and the battery is dead, so he should spend $50 or $60 for a coil, and then try to figure out how to change the wiring back to original????

Why not charge or replace the battery????
