I restored a 1961 Studebaker Hawk and used it on all suspension, frame and inner body panels. I'm currently restoring a 1962 Lark convertible and plan to do the same. All of the parts were sandblasted the morning that I painted them with POR-15. This stuff will not work on shiny metal, it needs a tooth to grip on to. Either sandblast, sand or let build up a surface rust before using. One $25 quart did the frame, front suspension, rear axle, gas tank and a few body panels. Best of all you can brush it on and it dries flat and looks powdercoated. Wear rubber gloves. One trick I've found is to store the unused portion in a clean oil bottle... squeeze all air out and put on the cap. Also if this stuff dries and forms a skin in the can, DO NOT try to puncture the skin. Some how it builds up pressure underneath and when you break through it will geyser up... and more than likely you'll be leaning over the can when it happens. I learned that the hard way. Buy it in small cans... I buy it in quarts, but they do come have 6-packs of half-pints.

I"m NOT a fan of it. It"s far too drastic and painting over rust is definitely not my style. Originally tractors or classic cars for that matter weren"t given much protection. With modern product though, like Epoxy primers and urethane paint, the rust prevention and durability and longevity are far far greater. I strip every thing to bare metal, then metal prep (mild phosphoric acid wash) with PPG DX579 metal conditioner, rinse and seal in PPG DPLF epoxy sealer primer, then topcoat with your choice of paint. I prefer PPG DCC single stage acrylic urethane. The urethane will resist solvent, brake fluid and other contaminants far better than lacquers or enamels. Color hold out will be far greater too. I like to use the example of a car frame. Originally they had at best a coating of asphalt based paint from the factory. Today many people over react, thinking they need something really heavy duty to protect the frame. This is not really true. Had it been originally protected with somehting like the method I outlined above, they would"ve held up far better.

I strip my tractors down to the bare metal and coat them with POR 15 and tiecoat primer. Have also uset the fuel tank kit. It has worked great for me. Get their catalog and then decide for yourself. If you do use it be sure to follow the instructions by the book. Use plastic wrap on the can lids when closeing the can and dont get it on your hands, will be there for several days.

I have used the black topcoat and it works beautiful, I have also used the gas tank sealer and also worked perfect and have used the manifold gray on a 3208 cat and it worked great and held up and looks just like new cast iron. All beautiful products. Just don't get it on your hands. It takes a few days to get it to wear off. Very good quality products.

I used their products for redoing a gas tank on my tractor. Pricey, but good.
