I'm from columbia missouri, thinking about getting in to the pulling scene. I attended a pull here last weekend, and couldn't believe what i was seeing. If a tractor is supposed to be stock how do they sound the horn in division 1. I know 2 supposedly d1 tractors sounded it in th 3000 or 3500, and does a tractor pull in 2500 d1, get smoked, and come back in the d2, and spank everybody. Just wanted to know if i am going to pull stock do i leave it stock or do i have to build a motor to compete with the other "stock" tractors.

its not hard to blow the horn if you up the tire height . 28s to 38s will do it everytime.

Molines have one of the faster 1st gear. My 49 UTU about 3.3 mph. My fathers JD 70 did not have the creeper gear and we would get the horn if we cracked it wide open from the gate had to wait til half way down to open her up. I think a 3.5 mph is perfect for stock tractors

Our club's stockers can all blow the speed limit horn. 2.5 MPH class. Most tractors were at least 2.8. I used to blow the horn a lot then stall out at the end. It was a junker, but it was fun. Horsepower does not help much at 2.5 MPH. Most trators can spin the tires in 1st gear. It's a good control. Not may can run 2nd gear at that speed. The hotter ones stay in 3/4/5 mph classes. Pretty easy to tell even though smaller horsepower tractors can beat some bigger ones quite a bit in our club.

It bugs me when a "stock pull" is far from stock. BRING BACK THE DYNO AND SEND THE "STOCK" guys packing!!!!

When you use the Dyno to test them is there any give and take? example. My Dads BN Farmall comes stock with 16hp. It has been rebuilt but it still has the stock 3in bore flat top pistons and the stock head. We did a good valve job on the head and a little cleaning on the ports but didn't make them any bigger just took out the little boogers here and there. And now it puts out 21hp. You guys are talking alot bigger stuff and most likely bigger HP jumps. Thanks Shaggy

We used to allow 10 % over stock power and rpm's. Just take a little timing out and you would be fine. Now our club threw out the dyno and now we will start to have over power tractors.

It's all about the postal service...so Hartsburg is correct. And I do plan on putting the "Hammer" down ol' Frankie this summer.

Easy to blow the horn with a stocker 1/3 of the way down the track and yet stall out in 1st gear at track's end.

yeah I will say it's not hard on a 3 mile an hour pull to sound the horn. Pulled a 58 Oliver 770 with a power booster for alot of years. 2ng torque forward you cant bring her to governed rpm until about 100-125feet or youll get strike one. No matter what, keep this in mind, stay within the rules and have fun, dont worry about what those other yaywhos are doing cause none of us are gonna get rich doing this

If it is a speed limited pull, as i am guessing it is...."blow the horn", it is not hard to blow the horn with a stock tractor. Have done it with out Farmall Super M many times. Other than advancing the timing a little, and a little governer spring tinkering....IT IS STOCK. Farm class tractors can do the same. Turn the pump up and a good turbo will do wonders, and that is stuff that had usually been done to farm with. If you want to get with the big boys, spend money, lots of money.

If the rule for Div 1 says pull in first gear then I think it would be hard to blow the whistle as I don't know of many stock tractors that run over 3 mph in first. Not turning stock RPM anyway. I pull a JD IH And Oliver and none of them will even with the RPM turned up 10%.

Now if it just says 3 MPH then there is the problem your having. People are pulling in Second and that will blow the horn but if it is stock they will usually slow down before the cones where you have to be running less than 3.

Only thing I can think of that might run faster in 1st is a Moline. We have a U and I know the road gear is realy fast compared to everything else we have.

As for pulling your restored tractor, go for it. heck if there any in the class that are real stock you will compete with them and do pretty good. If there are ones in there that are hot as heck but get in the class anyway, well if thats what it takes to make them happy so be it. Just have a good time and listen to your tractor hooked to a load.

I like pulling but to be honest I'll take a plow day over a pull any day. More time in the seat and you get to listen to your tractor pull longer.

NATPA Div.1 is 2.75 mph and some places it is 2.5 mph,so it isn't too hard to beep the horn.

My B farmall will honk the horn for 3mph in 1st gear but it is turning 2000rpm with 11.2x24's on the back. I think 1705 is 10% for me though.
