Can the crankshaft on a 506D be stroked?

No, you dont have to have the offset rods,,, but in most cases, they offset grind em to match a smaller journal diameter which also makes room. In a gas engine Id say go for it, but a diesil, Id want as big of journal as I could keep. Im sure a rod bolt can be tucked enough so it wont hit the block when offset caps are used. Either way, he is looking for rods for much over .250 offset in the stock journal (half inch stroker) ChadS [email protected]

If ever a new rod was built for the IH 6 cyl,,, that uses an offset rod cap,, and even kept the stock center to center distances,,, you could stroke the stock bore 301 an inch easy!!! the rods are what hold it back and many have cut n welded, or used small auto rods,, but best is to have somebody make a set to your needs, but whatever you do,,, it must have an offset rod cap to move things arond enough to swing the stroker. Hope this helps,, ChadS

You absolutly do not have to have an angle cap rod to make a stroker swing in that application. I have seen more than one of these engines, stroked way more than an inch, use a straight cap rod. It may not be as bad with a smaller crank, but with a big crank with an angle cap rod, it helps on the cam side and then you have to go all the way thru the block on the other side.

Can actually go up around 470, but things get a little to thin at that point. It can be done though.

You can get about 400 cubes out of a 560 motor.

Id say the diesil has a hardened journal, or they use either a method to harden it, or its applied. If it can be ground off, it might be possible to do so. Or, use a gasoline engine crankshaft,,, but, was also thinking,, they all used the same crank once past the C-263. But I do think its possible,, but never tried it. Not much help,,, LOL! ChadS
