Darn oil gallery is the fun part. Cut and patch. Rods are done, cam was already cut, staying with the cam I had before,, Ive got .080 clearence in some places, most is over .125. The head is not done, just got the new guides, valves, etc,, in today, I have to make more room for valve travel in the spring. I run a stock IH spring, and the cam has bottomed out the springs in the past and bent a pushrod a few times. I had thought that the head I was running, was milled down to nothing, and thought that maybe that had something to do with it the binding. The new head has nothing more than a clean up on the deck surface. Then comes the porting and the grinding. I have a practice 350 head that has a crack in the chamber,, been exploring,,, and those heads can be opened up quite a bit!! Had an old H head before,, super long intake ports,,, the new head is more open and straight to the point,,,, just seems like much better flow. hope it doesnt hurt low torque being bigger thru the intakes. the old head,, never had any bowl blending done,, this one will. Slow progress,,, but its a step more. Oil gallery sealing tomorrow, or over the weekend,,, so far, two cyls rotating, oil galleries have to be patched up, # 3 will see a turn maybe late Sunday. Chad

IT takes more time clearancing a motor than it ever does to assemble one . grind then grind some more then install cam and grind some more . been there done that

Nope, but have done some work in that direction. Had a new flywheel and clutch made up this week, gotto pull the ring and pinion back out, while Im at it, take out the limited slip differential,,,,, For some reason in our club, parts that help the act of pulling are for some reason,,,,, ,,,, barred,,,, you can run strokers in farm stock, no wheelie bars and no front weight brackets allowed. the things we think about while doing clearence work in a block can make ya wonder what is in the kool aid.
the block is here, started mapping out the grinder paths to make it all turn over, shoot, gotta grind the block just to make the crankshaft make a full rotation in the block all by itself. takes me about a day per cyl to make it swing.
Dusted off the old side curtains,,, all the scrapes and scratches, weather beaten letters still say,,, Something Wilder on em. Was gonna make new ones, but it gives character to it and they have alot of life left in em,, I might need em for areodynamics. Paint still got shine under the dust, tires still hold air, and I got to get one of those high torque starters,,, this thing eats starters and M farmalls,,, one time, 6 in one week. beat 3 M,s and ate 3 starters during fair week in 1999. Would have had a winning week if the sled operator wasnt holding the brakes on the sled. Sorry for venting,,, and thanks for askin. Id say in 2-5 weeks, Ill have the short block back in the chassis. Still got head work to do, but, got some things to do before I get to it. Lots of grindin. Lots of sparks, lots of bloody knuckles, late nights, magic springs bouncing all around, but so far, things are going along fine. Chad
