I have a grant wheel that came off of a vehicle I sold recently (put the factory one back on when sold) and I thought it would be a nice touch to add to the M... however.. with the shaft size difference and the keyed M shaft versus splined grant hub... I have not found an adapter on summit or grants' website... I suppose I could machine one.. but I'd like to buy a factory made piece... anyone pulled this off before with any sort of simplicity?

Thanks for the ideas guys.. I got lucky.. when I took a 5/8 drill bit to the hub, it slid right over the first part of the steering shaft, so I got the bright idea to just use a file and cut me a keyway in the grant hub... fit just right, with two spacers between hub and the nut, it tightened right up and should do great. Looks like it was meant to be there!

Check with Speedway motors, I think they are in Lincoln Nebraska, not sure of websight. They have an adapter that goes from the tapered/keyed shaft to the three bolt pattern of your wheel. It adapts newer wheels to old columns like model A & T Fords. Good Luck.

I hope you take this in the spirit in which it's meant...and I'm only wishing to be helpful. But it appears to me that, with all the old letter-series Farmalls that are being parted out nationwide, you might find an otherwise bent and junk steering wheel and remove the hub. Then weld to that hub a plate to or flange to mate up with the Grant three-bolt mounting pattern, making sure that the three-bolt circle is concentric with the Farmall hub.

What brought that to mind is the way someone mounted the aftermarket [Grant??] steering wheel to the original column in my '51 International pickup....but THEY welded an original hub to the aftermarket wheel, making the wheel useless in anything BUT an old International pickup.

As I said, just trying to be helpful...based upon my observations of what NOT to do.

Thanks Buzzman72... with my usual attempts at creating things, I cannot believe why I didn't think of this idea... The steering wheel on my M now is missing most of the plastic grip, and is going to be replaced one way or another.. no reason I can't cut that hub out and make myself an adapter... Thanks for the advice!! And nope.. no welding the wheel to the hub on this one!

Might wanna make sure you "index" the hub and adapter so that the steering wheel is centered when the wheels are straight ahead. It'd be way too easy to make the adapter, and then find out it's not comfortable because it's not indexed properly.

I haven't made exactly that mistake before, but I've done similar things.

I had a grant GT wheel on my H, The hub idea works, but you do have to make a ring, that is bigger outside diameter,,, so you catch the three holes in the grant wheel. get a piece of aluminum bar, and whiddle ya one down, Use bigger bolts too,, mine kept comming loose and ended up welding it. I cut the nut down,,, (before I welded it)thinner and my horn button fit on there great!! ChadS [email protected]
