I have a john deere 60 that i shaved the head .250 and welded a .250 plate on top of piston. Ran for about 2 weeks, then tried to crank it and it turned so far then stopped.Come to find out that something has fell down in the cylinder and is lodging up.Took off the valve cover and the retainer had fell of. Is it part of the plate or is it the valve?

Top quality componets and good people to deal with.
Those 60's can get fussy with head gasket sealing at the best of times. Cutting a 1/4 off makes the head even thinner and more flexible.
Add a cam, port match the manifolds/head, blend in the rough spots in the valve bowl, 5 angle valve job and releave the intake eyebrows. 720 power in a 60 chassis.

Plate came off a piston & crunch. Kind of looks like welding that plate on the pistons didn't save any money compared to getting some LP pistons in the first place.

Well i didnt have any money invested in doing that anyways. So you could say it was an experiment. Good thing it wasnt running when i come off, it fell off when it was turning over. Took the head off and it was the plate. Do you know where i can get some alluminum dome tops or some lp pistons?
