1200 can go quite a ways! Look for good tires, and Id re enforce the horse shoe part of the drawbar,, so it doesnt flex and bend and possibly break. Get some materials for a set of wheelie bars, and if allowed, get materials for a front weight bracket, and if you can, pick up some IH suit case weights. On the engine,,, a 175 kit out of a 350 will be a real good power booster,,, and for what the price of a stock kit is these days, you can take the ol engine out, have it bored to fit inthe bigger sleeves, and POOF!! you got a 350 engine in H plain jane clothes. I know you can build the H into the 350 for less than 1000$,,,, depending on how bad the cyl head is. Look for 13.6x38, or a 15.5X38, on a 14 inch rim for the 15.5s,,, try it!! youll like this setup, and I belive it can be done in your budget. ChadS ChadS3@hotmail.com

Roller rockers from Murphy's would also help. With the 300 head and an LP manifold and M carb you would notice a good increase.

Start with the head & carb,I don't what head you have know but start with a head off of a 300 or a 350 head casting # 361479 this is the high compression gas model you can buy one for about $300 don't bother looking for the LP head they are rare & about $1000 when you do.Next do not use distillate manifold if thats what you have get an aftermarket one for $119 & get a M carb anymore help just ask Tim

Iv read all the post you have on the IH forum and guys saying that your wasting time... etc with the H so on and so on... Ill just give you a breif story i bought my H about 4 years ago, just as a woking H (rake hay, tedd, pull logs etc.. paid 1200 for it with a loader so nothing special) anyway I pull an Allis B that i have done work to and my Father pulls a Super H that has been tweaked. So i was never intending to pull it. but i thought hey what the heck there is a pull that is right next my house so why not hook up and see what will happen, in the worst case its more time pulling always a plus! Well after tweaking with the carb, gov, i came in second this year in the 4000lbs class at that pull, i lost by a foot to a 6 grand oliver. To make a long story short power is NOT everything! My H is BONE stock turned up 10% thats IT!

Now.... you say you have 1200 to spend, i would put the 3 7/16" over bore engine kit in it... 400 or so... have the head gone though 100 - 300 or so depneds on what you have done. with the rest i would look for tires, and or weights. In 4000 i like 12.4's and the Super H has 13.6's in 4500 so those are the sizes i would go for.

The most important thing is to have FUN! you dont need to sink thousands of $$$ into this sport to have fun!

Good luck

Andrew
