Put a chev 350 in a Massey Harris 44 or 55. The clutch housing is divorced from the transmission, so the combinations are endless. The 44 has a bolted coupler and the 55 has a chain coupler. I have built one of each with great success. the RC 44 has a loger frame and wheel base, and you can even put a four speed behind the motor. That's 20 gear choices between the two trannies and you can use SFI approved clutch parts and bellhousing for safety. Run a good SFI approved balancer as well. Good Luck.

we had a farmall f-12 with a ford 406 in it we used the ford clutch set the motor ahead a little and run a drive shaft to the input shaft on the tranny of the tractor that was one awsome tractor was built to blow haylage up a 120 foot ribstone could do so with ease also would run 50 mph down the high way so pulled hay wagons with it too way too light in the front end though

The tractor that I'm using was used as a parts tractor I picked up for just nothing becuase the head was off the engine, had to disconnect the shaft between the engine and x-mission just to get it to roll. I've been soaking the engine for a few months and hopefully will try to overhaul it next winter.

Are you going to put it back in the M after it is overhauled?

WITH SAFETY ALWAYS A MUST, YOU SHOULD NEVER USE A SPACER FOR YOUR FLYWHEEL!
PLEASE HAVE A FLYWHEEL MADE TO FIT YOUR APPLICATION BECAUSE ITS NOT WORTH SOMEONE DYING OVER WHEN IT COMES OUT OF THE CENTER SECTION OF YOUR TRACTOR JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE TO CHEAP TO PUT IN A GOOD FLYWHEEL!

You can use a spacer and it will work fine if its done right. I would recommend getting the whole assembly balanced though to ensure everything is true. I know of several guys using spacers that are running alot of rpms and making alot more torgue than a 350 will.

I don"t believe you would want to do this on your own. I took my flywheel to a machine shop that had the abilities to balance it . Its alot like balancing a tire as far as the process, except they remove weight instead of adding weight.

DO NOT make an "M" flywheel fit the SBC. The "M" flywheel was made for an engine rated at 1600RPM. Even if you dont get crazy, you will turn the SBC atleast 2x that, and maybe even 3 or 4x the RPM that flywheel was intended for.

I also have a chrysler 440 that I installed in a M about 2 years ago. I had a complete new steel flywheel made to the orig cast size so that I can use the orig starter.

I had the same machinist true up the orig adapter plate so that I could bolt new motor in the same way old motor was. I did not have to widen or stretch the frame rails to get motor to fit in, but did have to grind a lot. I bolted motor in and then welded front motor mounts to frame rails.

You will have to use electric fan as new motor will sit a lot lower in chassis than orig.

I used a pressure plate from a ford diesel pickup and am using a heavy duty clutch plate from a M (splines will be same a input shaft into orig transmission/rear end- which I use).

I have 18.4x38 cut tires on, I pull at 6000 rpms (I use a MSD 6AL rev limiter as a governor) in 2nd gear which is 12-14 mph pulling a sled. I have a estimated 400+ hp (no way to check for sure). I pull in 5000# to 7000# open, tractor with me on weighs 4800#.

I have been down track 39 times with this tractor and trophied 36 times with 3 DNF from mechanical problems. The only problem I have with this tractor is all the whining from the open pullers who used to kick my butt on a regular basis with my other tractors and now find it easier to complain. I guess that it would be more "fair" in their minds if I had spent $25000 on a hot motor and then "appeared" stock, (I have less than 8k in tractor).

I have some pictures and some video that I haven't tried to post on here, maybe my wife can if I ask her nice.

There is a gentleman with a 420+ci 460 and another with a 800+ci MM that are both exremely tough, we take turns beating each other. GREAT competition and not afraid to pull against me!!!

If you need more help, just ask.
