What does a stock G usually dyno? I know they were rated at 38 but thats not much more than a A.

A good running but stock G should honestly dyno in the mid to high 40s with no problem at all. You"ve gotta remember that the 38hp number for an A was on gasoline, while the only Nebraska test for the model G was on the distilalate/kerosene fuel. Look at the tests on a 70, which is essentially the same engine as the G, there"s nearly a 10 hp difference when you go from kerosene to gasoline. The G came with about 90 cubes more than the styled A, you can"t tell me that 90 cubes is only good for about 1/2 a horse!

you should have anywhere's from 42-48 for a good gas G with a gas manifold and all. got a relitive that has a 50's G with 6.125 aluminums and the big swirl head and it dyno's 54-56 everytime anyday. ask 2cyl. about old don's G...he still wins once in a while with it in speed limit classes.

On a given day any tractor could outpull another. Depends on the weight class as well, if you had the G stripped to the gills and had a Farmall H weighted correctly, the H could win. Yes, the G has more HP and torque than the JD A, but there's a balance there of HP, tires, weights, ability, etc...

So would a stock G out pull a stock A? With a bigger stroke I would think a G would have more torque and out pull the A.

They maybe some what of a gutless wonder in stock, all fuel form. But with a set of Aluminum High Compression Pistons, and a Flat Head, along with removing the needless baffles in the manifold you will dyo at 65-70 horsepower.

Many years ago my stock 51 G dynoed @ 35 hp. It was truly a gas guzzlin gutless wonder.

A stock G will pull 32 - 36 hp on honest dyno. Low output for large cube engine.
