Just bought a JD-G and want to pull for fun. I want to put together a fun tractor but don't have an endless budget. Where should I start? I have a 47 G all fuel with 15.5-38 tires. Removed head and #1 piston, found to be stock bore. This winter I plan to go thru machine and try to make a try this spring at either Lexinton SC or Aiken SC. Any help would be appreciated always willing to listen to experience.

Remember, no mater what you do to the engine, it is still just an air pump...the more air it flows, the better... Match and clean up all the ports and spend the money on a good 3-angle valve job as an absolute Minimum.. Remove any casting flash and obstructions in the ports..(head and Manifold)..this all equals Free Power...!

Like always do the basics, bore it out and mill the head down and do a good port job on the head. The old G will pay u back for that. Anything more cost $$ I done both no matter what u do u wanna do more.

Put new rings in it and do a valve job.Do a good tune up change all fluidsand bout 7lbs air in rear tires and go have fun. 47A puller,Hoss

Congrats on the G! I would recommend starting out in the Antique class, especially if you have a limited budget (don"t we all?) Next, make sure the tractor is running good, with fresh plugs, gas, etc. Your 15.5"s are a good size, as are 14.9"s, and will allow you to compete in the "stock" antique classes. Most importantly, whatch what others are doing, and listen to the advice they have to offer. I owe a great big THANKS to everyone that has helped me out over the years, here in mid/West Michigan. Pullers seem to be a pretty friendly bunch, and pretty creative, too.

Have fun, and try to learn something new from each hook... one lesson that I learned is not to short myself on fuel-somewhat embarassing!
