There is a good possibility that the Portersville PA club may change locations to the Lawrence Cty Fairgrounds. Longer track, better parking, two sled operation, easier access seem to be the major advantages. Anyone care to comment?

The biggest thing we need is to expand our membership, so would moving to Lawrence County Fairgrounds bring more members? I think it would for the reasons mentioned above (easier access, longer track, nicer facilities). I am not convinced that running two sleds at once is going to be easy to do, I would propose we do one sled at a time until we get an increase in members.

It sounds like you are only moving a short distance from where you are now. I would not think you would pick up that many new people, at least that is what happened in our pulling area. It already sounds as though you have things working nicely at your current location. You could actually lose members who might be hinging on the move, we had that happen too. By the responses on this topic so far, even some well known names in pulling are not sure the move makes sense.

As a club, we need to look at this very closely.
What is the reason for moving? Do we need a longer track?
A longer track will help with the farm stock class;
but if you look at last years farm stock, we had a very low attendance.
For Antiques, do you need a 300 foot track? Moving to Lawrence County, you would be running two tracks. Running two tracks you would need more manpower. Are you willing to run two tracks? Right now we do not have the manpower to run one track efficiently.
As club members, you need to discuss this with the President, Vice President and the Directors.
I feel Portersville has one of the best tracks around!
Come to the meetings which are the 2nd Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!

There is more to it then most see. There are new people in charge at the steam show and they're not puller friendly. They don't seem to want to fix anything or even help to.I think the move would be good; more room with the opportunity to pull more classes.To start, it would be the same as Portersville now div.1,2,3,4 antiques about every other weekend and farm stock 4 or 5 times a year.The sleds would be WPATPA club owned sleds THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL.Officers have to meet with both parties yet.THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL.

I will pull wearever they go to, but I think it would be a real shame to leave a place that works great for the club. The club has made a lot of money for the steamshow over the years. It would be great to see them {the steam show} get off their butts, put somehting back in the grounds, and fix the problems that are driving the club away! The two are a great fit for each other, but thats just my 2 cents worth.

I hope there is a better reason for changing locations than a two sled operation. Seemed to have trouble enough getting people to help with one sled. When the track is right, which it usually is, the best track I pull on all year long including the nationals, but I will go wherever. Art

I agree with Jim. It's probably the best antique track in western Pa. I remember years ago when Hilltop was considering a move to a local park only a few miles away, the board was going to help build a track and seating if I remember right and they ended up staying put. If the club moves, I will pull where they go, but I would rather see if somthing can be worked out we we are. I see good points to both sites.

Hate to see them give up on that track, one of the main reasons I go there but whatever... As far as distance it is pretty much a wash for me coming from Chicora.

I never pulled at Portersville, but have hit most of the saturday fair pulls at Lawrence County in the last 7-8 years. Will you be offering more classes? What sleds? Just antiques?

Thanks,

Brad
