Has anyone ever split the exhaust on an inline 671 detroit? Or were there any pieces of equipment that used a 671 with a split exh. Also the marine 671"s always pump out a LOT MORE HP than those in trucks. How do you increase the HP on a 671. Injectors? Blower speed? What is meant by "the way it"s set up" Thanks, just looking for answers to try and understand how to do things.....Phil

Hi Phil, The ex mfld bolt spacing is the same for 3,4,and 6cyl engines. If the ex. and blower are on the same side you might be able to use a 3/71 mfld on the front 3 cyls and either the rear half of the 6-71 on the rear3 cyls. Also look at different mflds for 3-71s and 6V71s. They are both used in many different applications and with different outlets. You could possibly use a left side mfld on the right side. Try to find a Detroit dealer with old partsman and old books, then start looking at truck and machinery salvage yards. If the ex. and blower are on opposite sides you will have a much easier job(more room). HTH Good luck. dan wc ne wyo

I"m a CAT guy, but used to mess with Detroits years ago.

The split exhaust would be for the turbo 6-71"s

Easiest way for more power is larger injectors (they are rated in cc"s) i.e. 65cc, 70cc etc...

A little more RPM too.

For big power... turbo, aftercooler, on top of the blower and big injectors.

Set -up is the injector rack and governor settings.

Yes, you can use marine injectors and settings.

You don"t have the cooling (the ocean), but tractors don"t pull that long

Thanks,,,I appreciate the info. now it's time to start looking for parts. I wonder what it's going to sound like? Maybe the same as the 6v-71 if the firing order is the same, but it should run real good.....thanks again...Phil
