I have an Allis D-15 i am pulling with being very new to pulling i was wondering what kind of advise i could get on setting up a good hitch it seems there are a lot different styles what seems to work the best. Currently I have shortened the draw-bar and raised it to the max height but i am still attached and pulling from the original point on the belly.

It depends on where the weight is placed. Generally, you want the front-end light, with a short drawbar, and weight placed on the rear wheels or just ahead. The long drawbar causes the front end to rise easily, lowering the hitch point and taking load off the rear tires. If the front is weighted enough to keep it down at the end of the track, the rear may be too light to get traction earlier in the run, causing the tractor to spin out early. The most consistant traction for the complete run seems to be with a short drawbar and the weight moved rearward. At least that"s what has worked for me. Have fun, and good luck- Kevin

As long as the hitch is the length you want and the max allowed height, it doesn"t matter where it is attached. The hitch is rigid as is the tractor, so it can be bolted anywhere that is within the rules. The result will be the same.

i have shortened the hitch to the minimum allowed but that seems to have been a disadvantage. Correct me if i am wrong but i am thinking the longer the draw bar the more leverage you are going to get thus putting more down force on the back tires.
