#1:Hard old tires, #2:max hitch height, #3:well tuned carb, #4:clear air and fuel flow.... in that order.... on a well balanced high gear "STOCK JD A" ....will win lots of Div.1 pulls from 5100 to 7100lbs.

I prove it every weekend in large ten entry classes!

im not sure which way my dad did one by mistake when he was 16 he said he forgot to compensate for the gears turning when he put them on said they put in on the blower (belt driven) and they could unload the wagons in high gear (haylage) that tractor pushed it up a 40 foot silo without even a grunt pulled a 3 bottom plow in 4th gear with it that way

I don't know what he was plowing but where I live it's clay, and it would take a real real strong A to pull 3 bottoms in 4th. A real strong A, no matter where the timing was

set the timing marks for the crank and the cam one tooth off you cant stop it just dont run it too long it vaporizes the fuel it will turn the manifold white as a ghost

If you were to change the cam timing you would advance the cam. That is quite a bit of an advance for a stock cam, though. Mike
