Hi Mike,
I'm getting ready to go tire shopping so I wanted to check in with you first. I'm pulling a 460 with good power but traction problems. In the archives I noticed your comments on the Goodrich Power Grips and how much you liked them. If I'm able to run 4500-8000, what size tire do you think I should be running? Thanks, Nils.

Nils, I apologize for not writing sooner. I"ve been in the field and haven"t been here much.

I guess I"ll have to have more information before I can answer your questions. How much power do you have? What speed will you be pulling? Is weight of a tire a factor in the lighter classes? What type of track do you mostly pull on? Let me know and I will try to be of help. Mike

Ok. I have a 460 Hi Utility w/38's. Most of the tracks we have out here seem to be sandy clay that packs easy and breaks up just as easy unless it's being pressed by a shallow tread tire where the space between treads contacts the ground. With the power I have, I'd say I range from 6mph@4500# down to 2mph@8500#. Tire weight is not a factor at all. This chassis is front heavy and hard to balance out in the lighter classes. The best results come from pullers who have 1/2-3/4" road worn tires with sharp leading edges that taper back down to level with the carcass and run pressures on the higher side. Thanks for your help and if you'd prefer to speak in person on the phone, give me a number and a time to call at [email protected].
