radar speed unit

Does any one sell a radar unit to mount on tractor for actual speed? as a kit? Or how about one that can pick up the signal from the sled, they can send the signal to the annoucers booth. Why couldn't you get one to pick that signal up? Would that be cheating?

If you can find one, a friend of mine has one. Case put these radar units on some of their tractors years ago. It might have been on their 90 series tractors, but it really works good.

I've thought about checking some salvage yards. They were used to get an accurate speed when spraying. The box is about 8 inches long, 3 inches square, mounts at an angle with a digital read out that mounts separate from the radar box. Good luck.

The best speedometer for a pulling tractor, I found is very cheap,and works great,but will not work in doors. GPS MAGELLAN EXPLORIST 100 $55.00 .works good, it appears to have a 2 second delay.I always ask the sled operator where the horn is set, and pull about 2,3 tenths below the horn

Yes, all sleds do very, but in the first 30, 50 feet you can tell where the sled horn is by just throddleing up till the horn blows, then back of 2 3 tenths ,and you are their, I am sure radar is maybe better, you will still have the difference between sled, But I think more pullers are looking ay price and $55.00 is hard to say no to

1st) The indoors part... 2nd) Have you considered that maybe your GPS and the sled could be a long-ways apart on their reading? Let's say the sled operator says he is set on 3.5mph, but in reality its actually 3.8mph. So you're running 3.2-3.3 when you should be running 3.5-3.6. The best type is one that is mounted on your tractor which allows you to set your speed before the limit cone.

I agree with you ,but here are a few more. Radars have electronic pulses just like magnetic pickup's which by the way a lot of sleds use. These have to be calibrated and they are not exact,close but not exact.

If your allowed radar units, and lets say 85% of the sleds you pull on have the agrironix radar, and also has the additional reciver for the announcers table,,,, get an identical unit as the announcers table,(if that one is 12 volts and not 110V) and get the frequency dialed in the same as the sled/announcers table, and you get live data off the sled. If I had it my way, our club sled would have that, available to be mounted on every tractor so everybody can use it as they are pulling. Eliminates any extra so called advantages a speedo on the tractor, and its there for everybody. Just my opinion on that,, time consuming to do for every tractor that hooks, but sure would be sweet. But, if I could, get the reciver box and mount it on the tractor. Data recorded info, Shoot, sign me up!! No, I dont think its considered cheating. Not anymore than say a tachometer. That would be nice if Agri-tronix had a tractor mount reader. Our sleds don't have horns, so you don't know until eveyone tells you after your pull. I saw on there website that they have an individual monitor with several indicator options, but none that pick up the sleds signal without a cord connection. Any electrial wizards who could build a receiver that can be calibrated to pick up one of the 128 channels used? A discrete diplay would be nice, too.

Agri-Tronix sells a Speed Board for the full pull end of the track. It has full size numbers that tell the actual speed of the sled while it is being pulled. It works great. It was used this year for almost 4000 hooks by this pulling sled: http://www.tractortracks.net
I hooked to it many times and say it work from zero to 27 mph (when hooked to an open class truck). Get your sled owner to make an investment for the pullers.
