i have an oliver 88 diesel. they say that if you advance the timing and turn the fuel up to meet it that you can get more horsepower. does anyone know how to adjust the timing?

on the front engine cover there is a tin cover in front of the injection pump. take it off and you will see a round plate with a bunch of holes in it. two of the holes will have bolts in them. if you remove those bolts and turn the plate just slightly then two different holes will line up. but be careful not to go to far. and mark your starting location before you start. also if you are not hooked to a pto dyno when you do this you are waisting your time. if you are rolling black smoke then you need to turn the fuel screw out till it turns light grey. smoke does NOT equal power.
