does any one know how to get more horsepower out of a 1954 oliver 88 without spending alot of money?

ive heard guys talk about advancing the timing but im not sure how to do it on a diesel. can anyone elaborate and tell me if its even possible.

take the American Bosch pump off of it and "rebuild" it with a sledge hammer and an anvil then put a decent pump on it. When they trip into full full fuel and it starts pouring out black smoke you are losing 5-10 hp. The head doesn't flow enough air to burn it. I have proven this on a dyno. On most old Olivers the black smoke smells like coal burning, not a good thing, looks impressive to most but you are not making max. power.

RPM'S IF YOUR RULES ALLOW 20% OVER STOCK. TUNE YOUR TRACTOR ON A DYNO. MORE FUEL, DRILL OUT MAIN JET. LOSE TRACTOR WEIGHT THATS FAST HP.

Take your injection pump to a Diesel Injection Shop. Tell them what you want, and they can probably suggest several options, and more black smoke also.

The easiest things you can do, find a roosamaster pump or stanadyne off a later model oliver make sure you get the lines,turn the fuel up some on the pump and get all restrictions out of the air intake. All the fuel in the world will not help if you can't get more air. Make sure you are getting max rpm's for the class.
