How much horsepower can I get out of a MH 44-6 if I wanted to pull with it? I have heard of people getting over 150 hp with a Farmall M. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

150 HP is not possible in an old 226 continental. (or at least HIGHLY improbable). There are a few things that can be done though...

Cheap HP: RPM, run the max allowed by your local club. Head work, shave it down and bump the comp. A good dyno tune, adjust the timing and carb. Block off the heat riser in the manifold.

Not so cheap HP: There are some Chevy pistons that will fit in a bored continental. Good for 295 cubes or so... Put in a Marine or Industrial application camshaft that will open up your torque curve. Port work on the block and manifold...

The old flathead does not flow very well, but you should be able to get 75-80 horse if everything is done well... If you want more than that Buy a four cylinder engine, send it to the machine shop, and open your wallet WIDE...

I'm definitely not an authority on M-H but I don't remember seeing a 6 cylinder 44, if that is what you're referring to by the "44-6". They did make a 744 that was a 6 cylinder but it was British I believe.

There was deffinitely a 44-6 Massey tractor. It had the flathead Continental 6 cyl.I have original sales lit for them.I've seen several at the pulls over the years and a neighbor once had one with a 2 row mounted picker.

Umm stack a few Allison aircraft engines on it and I think 5000 could be possible.
