Hello. I am new to tractor pulling and own a 1951 farmall c. How can I make this competitive in the 2500 to 3000 lb antique classes? Here are the rules: stock engine, frames, trans, rears, stock heads are to remain unchanged, RPM's 10% over stock, must use pump gas, enhanced electrical systems allowed, add-on weights allowed, max tire size 18.4x38 top cut only. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

If you have to run stock engine and head that rules out the 153 combine engine. Most improvement will be in increasing the compression ratio. Get the highest compression pistons you can find and mill the head. Dial in the carb and ignition and maybe get your cam reground for more performance. It takes a lot of work to get a C to 2500 but they can be very competitive at 3000 or 3250. I would pull it some just the way it is for a while to get a feel for what improvements are needed. I pull a stock Super C in div 1 and it does very well. With the above mods you may be able to use one tire size bigger than stock, max.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone make an off-the-shelf pulling cam, or should I just do as you mentioned and get mine reground?

The guy at bullet cams pulls farmalls and seems very knowledgeable. I had them do one for my H farmall. If you search the archives on this sight you will find many references for bullet cams. Tell them what modifications you have done to your tractor and he will reccomend a grind for you.

You can get yours reground and it should perform better than a factory cam. I am going to send mine off to Bullet cams.

I have a B Farmall that is putting out about 32hp but I need to get it back on a dyno to be sure. I put 3 1/8 Domes pistons in it but you can get 3 1/4 in most C blocks. Mine has 210 lb of compression but I am using a 140 head thats been cut a little. With a little port work on the stock head and a good manifold and some tinkering with the carb you could make good power. CliffS has a KILLER Super C!

sounds about right. cliff can squeeze alot out of 123. but if you want big power meaning 18.4???? combine engine with alotttt of metal work. 18.4's is alot. do you need them??

Good morning t.r.y.!
Haven't seen you about in a while. What do you think of Cliff's H? It sounds like its a good one! I need to get out in your neck of the woods next year with my B or the SC if I can get it dialed in. My SC has the 153 but it needs more Carberator to get the power where it belongs.
Talk to you later!
Mark

Get a combine engine. It is the replacement block for it. Check into it, lots of horsepower.

Can you tell easily if it has the combine engine rather than stock? If so how?

Most obvious is the presence of freeze plugs in the combine block.
