I built one that pulls 4200 with a 180lb driver, and it will carry a 3X 65 lb weights on the nose,It run 14 mph in that class. Lots of work with 18.4X 38's we made it with steel wheels couldn't drive it with out nose weight. The aluminum wheels solved that problem. Then they wouldn't let the owner pull 4200 any more so now after all that work he has to pull 4500 up.

Much easier with a U. The older, the better. Without an aluminum or fiberglass tranny cover and oil pan on a UB, it'll be very tough. Just observed one around my neck of the woods pulling the last few years. No aluminum rims it was 4100-4200 or so bare bones. Lotta work to get there!

alum. oil pan, trans top, lite van rad., alum cylinder blocks,5 gal alum. fuel cell, other mis.small alum parts, alum. weight brackets, weld on axle plates. I have pressed steel rims now, hope I don't have to go to alum. rims. Hope I'm close. Mine is a UTU

4500 is possible but takes a lot of work. We changed the axle housings and axles in ours and ground and drilled the rearend housing pretty extensivly. Aluminum trans top and oil pan will help too.

Which one were you looking at? I saw two from Henderson's and both are excellent chassis and engines. you will be hard pressed to find a 4500# UB for sale but either of those would eb a giant head start.
