I do want to add that it isn't a good idea to try to get extra power by overspeeding the stock engine....it won't work for getting extra pulling power and does increase the risk of harming your equipment and injuring yourself and/or an innocent bystander. Professionally "souped up" engines seem to get more power by increasing the revs, but it's the physical modifications and tune up tricks that really get the results....and usually the engine stays together....but not always.

Dave's suggestion is okay, I guess, but you can get the same effect by making a little strap out of 1/8th by 1 inch wide flat CRS strap about 3 inches long and putting a 5/16th slot about 1 inch long in one end. Put the strap behind the govenor spring where it attatches to the govenor actuator rod. Slide it back and forth to stiffen the spring which will get quicker govenor response and higher revs without having the govenor surge. I've done this on both my G's and the A...it really "woke 'em up".

Please don't kill anyone. Unless you have worked the motor over more RPM is only going to make the motor turn faster until it begins to see a load and then it is going to end up at 700 to 900 RPM anyway which is where it will make its most torque. Anything over 1400 RPM is asking for death. Even that is pushing your luck with a 60 year old cast flywheel. If the motor is stock speeding it up is only going to increase the death factor and not make enough HP for the risk. 2 cylinder Deeres were never intended to turn fast.
