Hi Travis , Sorry to read about the busted rear main... Just Curious .. What build year was the block on your high powered DC ? I would guess it was after 1952, Thanx for Your response ., JIM

rear main won't bother much with dome pistons if the mains are adjusted properly and no detonation due to improper timing. Drastically increased displacement with 11 to 1 comp. is another story.

Yeah I was running 470 cubic inches at 11to1 Didn't get the main reinforced in time and now I have a block with cracks all over the back of it.

Shucks , I was hoping you would tell ME that it was a late 53 -54 , Earlier this summer while giving my 53- 54 DC a tough workout , I heard this sicking heartbreaking knock , And then it went away , And Now I have her in sick bay waiting for the Masters Hand .... others on the Forum have told Me that the last years of DC Blocks were notorious for this rear main Crack , I Will Keep in mind that you were getting some REAL HP ! out of the 49er , I Will be using a 51 motor .. Any Ideas of how to reinforce the main is greatly appreciated . Best Wishes , Jim

Yeah I heard the know, then it went away, or was barely noticable, took me awhile to find it, but we did. Mel can help you with the rear main reinforcment. He told me how to do it, I just asked to late.

Travis, how are you doing? While I personally have never lost a block on a DC I know you have and some others. I do all I can to eliminate any possibility of detonation in my head /piston combo, also, I use octane high enough for the compression ratios involved and make a sturdy brace to tie the main cap fast to the block and absolutely no lugging!!.Travis, I did have one of the pistons we used come apart, what a gernade that was, I think we will be able to use the valve cover nuts over but I havn"t checked them yet. Let me know about your latest projects!!I am going to do a big 730 for a fellow soon, just gathering up some tooling for our FL kwikway boring bar that is suitable for open block boring. Later, mEl.

Thanx Travis , Hello , Mel . If You have been listening in , How can I reinforce these DC blocks , I have a WALL of TROPHYS won with the 51 DC ,She has Power pack pistons in her that were installed in 1973, And She is still Strong , And a Mighty Power to be reckoned With , But I fear I may be on borrowed time ,, Judging from everyones track record . Thanx Jim
