I just purchased a 1959 farmall 460 in great shape. everything runs pretty good and the engine is stock as far as i know. It"s weighing somewhere around 6500#. I would like to be semi competitive in some local antique pulls. i"m somewhat pressed for cash right now and didn"t know if anyone had any inexpenive idea"s to give it a little more juice so to speak. thanks.

Most initial HP gains would likely come from a larger bore and stroke and higher compression. The list goes on from there. A high octane fuel in a low compression ratio engine could likely lose you HP. As far as cost, you would have to research which is the best way to go for you now. Bore, pistons, stroke etc, all. A properly tuned straight pipe and carb adjustments can only give small HP improvements. Maybe you could start with that until the pull bug hits and you still want more power.

Inexpensive ideas. HA thats the funniest thing I have heard. Putting a straight pipe on a tractor and using synthetic oil wont give you enough horsepower to see on a dyno. Rebuild the engine to 301 size or get one out of a 715. High test gas doesnt do you any good unless you have high compression. ChadS can tell you how to fix the motor up good. But you will have to spend some money. Hate to break it to you, but that is part of the game.

I'm assuming you will need to keep your RPM's close to stock , so a straight pipe might help, also synthetic oil will give you some more HP. Burn a high octane fuel maybe super or a little higher if you have access to it.
