Farmall M with traction problem, I done what you said and put all the weights on the belly bar. Tractor performed very well. Sill plenty of power. Pulled 8ft. short of 1st place. Front end came up 6 inches. 13 lbs of air in rear tires, what do I do next?

Thank you,
Steve

How light can you get the M? Got cast or pressed steel rims? Stock cast hubs on the front? How do you have your hitch mounted to the tractor? Off the pto bolts, or off the axles?

I hang the weights, hook and hang towards the front. How much weight was you able to put on the bar? Now, Id say you need to bump the tire pressure up to 14 psi, especially if its a newer tire, the front comming off the ground 6 inches tells me that the tire pressure can go up, which will make the front end come up MORE,,, hang some more weight to keep it on the ground, but stays under 6 inches. Should pick up some draft on a good track. Also, too much power to the wheels will spin you out,,, mainly rpms,, if you got power, slow it down in the areas you need to get a good bite, and let it lug down a grab hold of the track, youll feel it take off and then if its a steady bite, you can give it some speed by rpms and keep momentum going.

Some Advise in reply to stonerock, 08-13-2007 18:14:53
I did not read the first post that you got that gave you the advise so I am sorry if you duplicate advise.

A belly bar is definatly a big help but not the only answer. 8 feet short of first is a good. Sometimes you need a weight or 2 in the front some times in the back the key is reading the track and learning (with time) what it takes. Each tractor seems to pull unique and taking canned advise will get you to a certain point but learning you own tractor is the key part to pulling. 13 psi is good for some tracks but after time you will learn to watch other tractors and how they perform and then fine tune your tractor to pull at its peak. Alot of the time it is just a gamble on what you think will work

Pulling is a sport that takes alot of thought and with time You will be a great puller. Just remember that there is not 1 answer on how to be a good puller over time you will develop your own style of pulling some people like low air pressure and weight further forward others like higher pressure with weight in the back.

The best advise I can give you is play by the rules. Anybody can cheat to win but the real satisfaction comes when you beat the cheaters with a stock tractor. Now that is fun

Hey mullercarl, it sure isfun winning, or doing very well with a stock tractor...especially when u know that other tractors cost 10 grand, and urs only costs what fuel youve put in it, and other tune ups you've done. Thats the fun of this game, and i have fun doing well with very little money spent, or work done.

Find a path in the track that has the best potential. Watch where the tractors are going down the track, pick the path of the leader and chase that leader down. Track reading is very important. Next, read your rules on what you can do with the hitch setup. What style of hitch are you using? Stock horse shoe or a custom drawbar setup? Lots of controversey on how to set up a hitch, different angles, styles, cleveises, etc etc. Also, what weight classes are you running? rpm limits, tire size, what gear your pulling in? I think there is some tweeking you can do to get better. Your Welcome! and chase down that leader!

LOL. Been there done that, won many classes with a first hook. Hopefully, the good path is established by the class your first in line for! But, remember, your showing them the way if your the man to beat, so they are gonna be following suit! So, make it a good one. I dont like first puller in the class jitters anymore than the next, I run 2 tractors in the class usually, so I got a refference to look at.
