I have been wanting to build the Farmall M for a bit more power. What head would be best to use? From what I have been reading it sounds like a 450 or 400 cam and 450 pistons are the ones to use but not sure on what head. Would a 450 head fit or should I do something to the stock head instead? Was taking compression test and setting the rockers when all of a sudden there was no compression on the number 4 cylinder so not sure what happened. Going to have to pull the head now anyways to see where the problem is so might as well do something to head now for a bit more power. Any ideas would be appericated Thanks Terry

450 cam,and head would help for sure. If its a M block, you can run the 450 pistons on the bare block with no sleeves, just have a ring made at the top to fill in the sleeve flange counterbore, a 450 headgasket, and you got a 281 in M clothes. Its possible to bore the M block to 4.25 and put the 450 sleves in and be good, if the block is good, thats the key!! Rusty waer jackets, Id say no, look for another block, and if the rules allow, step up to the SM-450 block. ChadS
