Hey Guys! I have been in the process of building my M for pulling for about the last 3 years now, pulling it along the way, I finally decided to take the year off as now it is time to split it and give the bottom end some attention. The competition up here is pretty stiff, I am lucky if I can crack the top 5 with some of the local guys. So far, I have had a neighbor who runs a machine shop, he does a lot of stock car racing and work on racing engines and pulling engines work the head over (plain, port, etc.), work the carb over, and I also installed a hotter coil and different plug wires. It is sitting on BFG 18.4x34s on M&W wheels, it also has had the drawbar shortened after I snapped the original into 3 pieces. Now onto my questions

I think that I am going to run it sleeveless, 450 pistons are the norm here arnt they? I was also wondering if I could maybe go a little bit bigger on the bore? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions of what else I could put in it for a piston? I was also wondering about the crank and what is the longest stroke that I can go to and still use my stock rods? I have heard that 6 is the max with a stock rob but I dont know for sure. For the cam I think I am going to contact Berry Cams out of Lester Prairie since they are close to home and all the pullers up here swear by them. Is there anything else that anyone can suggest? I know you guys have a lot of experience with Ms and anything information you can share would be great! I am pulling 5000 lbs. Out of Field with it, and I know that a few of the guys I pull against with Ms, Super Ms, and 460s are doing about 100-140 HP. If I did the things mentioned above what type of numbers do you think mine would be putting out? Oh by the way, I have the RPMs set right to where they are the max that the pulls allow, some of them do check them up here and I dont want to be DQed! Would a M&W governor do anything? I know where I can get one for a good price! Thanks in advance and feel free to give me any suggestions or comments! - Darin

Anybody who would send you to dennies definatly doesn't have a clue what it takes to make a good runner other than to spend money. He has some good stuff but most is over priced and just not worth the money. Do your home work , and you can find bigger and better for less.

Just for Fun,
I have been digging around on this website for awhile looking for ideas, and I just dont know what to do for the bore and stroke, I am planning on running it sleeveless as it is just going to be a puller, but I really dont know how big of a bore and stroke to go with. I think that Berry Cams can take care of me with the cam when they know what else I am going to be running with it. What type of combinations in a M are good for between 100-140 HP? -Darin

your best bet to do would be to call denny's carb shop and order a engine over bore kit and send out your camshaft and have it worked over for more lug power at the bottom end rpm's. Then have your shaved out and when ordering pistons make sure you get high altitude pistons

Gruff, I will not do business with Denny's, they are way over priced for what they offer and their customer service is down right horriable! That is just my opinion of them, maybe you have had a different experience with them. And when you say shave, shave what? The head has already had a hundred thoundsanths taken off of it. - Darin

If the M&W governer is a good price then why dont you buy it? I have one on my stock SMTA and all the pullers freak out when they see it.
