Start with stock settings. If you are playing with the tractor on a dyno, try it with stock settings and then try it with the exhaust opened up to .030", and if it likes that, try .040". If it likes that, try running them there; it will be a little noisy, but wont hurt anything.

On the intakes, you can play with them on the dyno and tighten/loosen them from stock settings to see what the engine likes.

Remember to only change either the intake lash or the exhasut lash at a time when dyno testing.

Drew,
thanks, reason i was asking after i set thevalves at .18 cold, the load needle wasnt having an effect on the carb. maybe purely col
incidental because ive had some carb issues a while back. Idle needle is still responsive. any ideas. I closed load needle and tractor runs great on ilde until i put the brakes on hard.If I close idle needdle and run her on load only seems to be way too lean, poppping and cracking.this is a puller with a 630 cam, 125 over jerrys manofold and hot coil. just had valve jog done on head.
thanks
