I assume I-H being the highest and Deere being the least horsepower per cubic inch based on rpm and combustion chamber design. Most stock gasoline Molines would run .18 to .25 h.p. per cubic inch with .25-.30 on some good propane power units. With the years of engine building experience on this discussion board, can any of you tell me an acceptable horsepower per cubic inch level for various high compression pulling tractors running 10-20% over rpm?

build for torque . torque is a must at low rpms . and remember most dynos show that torque and horsepower cross over at 5500 rpms .this is how diesels show more torque than horsepower they were never built to turn 5500 rpms

5656 i believe is the rpm that hp and torque are equal.and all dynos measure torque and convert it to hp.

MoPower, people talk about this from time to time. Really useful when talking about building a SBC or Ferd, not too sensible when dealing with engines that run at considerably different RPM"s.

Consider the really simple equation...

Power = (Cubic inches)*RPM

Then just compare, and you"ll see that there is a general ratio between tractors. If people on here could input their Cubes, HP and RPM, you"ll find on the ones that are "Built", the ratio should be similar. Likewise, if you look in the data books for stock tractors of a similar year, it works out pretty close...

If you look at some stock Deere"s (sorry, that"s the only engines I know bore/stroke/RPM and HP of.... The ratio of RPM*Cubes is about 10000:1 vs. HP. On a built engine, it seems to run closer to 5000:1 --> 6000:1

B (26HP) -- 189in * 1375RPM = 261016 -- 10039:1
A (35HP) -- 321in * 1115RPM = 357621 -- 10218:1
G (47HP??) -421in * 1115RPM = 459944 -- 10221:1

Would be interesting to see if it really holds true with the other models.

One puller described his 600 inch SuperM as having 200HP @10% over == 600 in* 1760RPM = 1056000

-- so 1056000/200 = 5280:1

Yeah, torque is what is desired. That's why a Deere or MM can hang with smaller engines making bigger horsepower. Curiosity was killing me to see how different companies compared. Oliver has to be up there too. Thanks for the info. It is very useful and more practical for pulling logic.

p.s. HD220 LP power unit makes 66 h.p. at 1900.
HD800 can make up to 250 h.p. Much better than the old MM U & Z gas tractors like a 283 making 46 h.p. or a 206 making 33 h.p.

Maybe if horsed up but out of the box I have never seen a 60 Deere come close to a WD45. 321 vs 226. But I'm talking more about field performance anyhow.

Looks, it's alive! I have my orders from the MM mother ship. Resistance is futile.
