ONLY OLIVERS 99's,990's & MASSEY 98'S ALLOWED!! 4th anual tractor pull--Cecil CO.-Fair grounds (Maryland) Friday nite, Lewis Oneal of Laurel,Delaware-On his 70th birthday--Won the "SHOOTOUT" with his OLIVER 990, against 20 other DETROIT POWERED tractors in this yearly event.Good going!!! As a commentI think there are more OLIVERS (W/DETROITS) W/371's GM MOTORS tractors in this area (150 mile radius), then any other "tractor pulling" area.

They ran (in addition to the98's,99's&990's) several classes of "CLASSIC TRACTORS", and yes, their were many Oliver 1850-1950 GMs,also quite a few 2255's v8-CAT.powered Olivers running.

Hey guess what ranch man they will beat your pis* a** farmall M that you have in your barn. We are tired of seeing those things going down the track at a mind blowing 2 miles per hour anyway people don't come to see a John Deere Or a old farmall they come to see something that will do something so how about you shut up and put your pants back on.
P.S Congrats to Oneal of Delaware I saw you pull it was very good Congrats again, you have the bragging rights for the next year.

I have read your comments on this subject.I think that you should put the Farmall and the Deere back in the shed so that they don't break. It would be ashame for you 9 to 5 guys to break your toy. I have a GM tractor and at every pull I go to I have to hear about how these GM tractors are kicking your scrap pile M's and B's because you can't get it up the track. If you were smart you would sell the 20 farmalls that you think pull good or the JD's that you paid 200.00 for on a good day and buy a detroit tractor a quit your bickering. We work hard to afford these tractors maybe you should try it sometime.I will bring my new detroit tractor down to shut you up if it makes you happy. It is a 99 with a 318 detroit wine about that farmall man.

First off you need to figure out who you are. Jersey devil, Oliver GM Boy, or Billy G. Then you need to figure out what club is going to let you pull a 99 with a 318 in anything other than exibition anyways. Then after you do that, you will have to put every weight you can find on the back of the tractor so you can get some kind of weight transfer. And then and only then you will have realized that you would have been better of to keep the 3-71 in the first place, cause you can hardly get enough power out of a 318 to make it worth while. If you are going to waste that kind of time and money, convert it over to alcohol, add a turbo then talk trash.

Badattitude, Now I have to agree with you this time,An OLIVER super '99', with a 318Detroit would--run strickly exp. But I have seen 'Harry Barrets'(Newville Pa.) 'Hot Farm--OLIVER 2255'. He runs his tractor in road gear, also says he looking for more gear, YET!!!!! So if the "Jersey Devil" gets his mess together, I guess we'll--all have to watch out, here in South Jersey. Cause he'll be bad....

Hey attiude "Dude" Why do you keep on worring about the OLIVER with DETROITS? I can handle 2255's in there lightest class & the Red power Int.966, or smaller in the 10,500lb. thru 7500lb.,ANYTIME!! With our 371 powered Oliver's. Why don't you post a pic. of what your pulling, thats if you even have one.....a real tractor that is!!!!

A 2255 makes since. It weighs 11,000 from the factory, has 38 inch tires, and is four or five feet longer than a 99. Plus it has a v8 cat. That is a world of difference from a v8 detroit. The cat you can put the biggest turbo on it you can find and make it work. The detroit has a blower which severely cuts down the amount of air you can push into it. You can probably get five or six hundred horse from the detroit. Thats just a start for the cat. Plus with the 99 being so short and such a heavy front end, the geometry for weight transfer is just not there. You would have to raise the hitch three feet of the ground and hang four thousand pounds of the back to get the front tires of the ground. Just my thoughts but I would bet on a hot 3-71 over a the other anytime.

I really like how you write "TIRED***FARMALL'M'" do you like think your the only one running around with a built up tractor, or do you just pull by yourself? Surprise what country are you from? We all wish we had our own class by our self, so we could all brag up our tractors. But thats not the case we have to earn our bragging rights. And I haven't see many if any done with a GM powered oliver, maybe a cat? Southeast Michigan, UNITED STATES! GOD BLESS AMERICA and AMERICAN built TRACTORS!

PS. Rock on BAD ATTITUDE and Surprise!

I will be the first one to admit I don't like detroits. Also to say I have seen a big range of tractors from farmall m - 560, oliver 88 - 880, and even moline 5 star beat some the hottest detroits in the md,de,pa area with regular success. Power ain't everything. Especially running speed limits. As far as ram ranch goes, I learned a few years ago there is no point in complaining about detroits or there owners. You just have to play the game. Remember your company and if all else fails, lie cause thats what they are doing to you.

Four valves or two, it doesn't matter when one of them drops in on the piston! I guess you have to expect that at over 3,000 rpm. I have heard a lot of Detroits zinged up over the years, but that 990 was well beyond the danger zone.

Maybe they can lie to the other pullers, but they won't lie to the parts man!!!

From what I heard, the broken valve was just hoping what went wrong. But you are correct, only the parts man will know. And yet another reason to never let anybody else drive your tractor. Especially when messing with 7000 dollar engines.
