power out of my tractor engine. it still has the standard fractory bore pistions. what is a cheap quick way to get a little more power out of the old gal?

Make it run perfect with a overhaul, not sparing anything to make it as good as new and then tune it to perfection. If it'll spin it's wheels on any surface in low gear you should have a chance unless you're trying to pull "with the pro's".

One of the most popular misconceptions out there... Octane doesn't have more power or make power, it lets you make power. Octane is RESISTANCE to burning, not BTU's/lb(or gallon).

It'd help if we knew what kind of motor you're playing with. Compression is the cheapest HP you can get. Minus all the things that factor into it, there's a direct link in the equation between BTU's in and out to Compression ratio.
