Setting Cam in A

I have a competition cam I had done that I am putting in a '36 "A" I have been told that I need to set it up with a degree wheel to get full benefit of this grind. This is a process I have never done and would appreciate any and all words of wisdom on this. Thank you in advance for any help.

You will need a dial indecator to set the number one piston to top dead center. You will need to figure out overlap etc. I will do some looking around to see of I can find a site that describes the dialing in of a cam.

Herc36A I had one ground years ago and put in my 36 A. Easy way is to do a google on cam degreeing and you will find several sites to help you do this. Lynn

I did this by measuring around the flywheel and dividing 360 degrees into it and that will tell you how many degrees are in one inch, and mark it around the flywheel. You will need a dial indicator to put on top of the pushrod to tell max lift. Mine had to be one notch advanced on timing marks to center line the cam. This is poor boy way, i'm sure someone can tell you a better way, but maybe this will give you an idea.

First you will need a degree wheel with the proper adapter for you crank bolt and a one inch dial indicator with a magnetic base and your cam specs. @0.050. third party image
