Been tearing apart my U9 engine that came from a salvage yard. It was set up to run on propane and I'm thinking maybe I have something special. The pistons were rusted but finally got them out and they look like they might be able to be used. Of course the liners are shot. They are the bigger pistons. 4 1/2 inch with a step top design. What I'm wondering is would it be worth while to try and put these pistons and maybe a propane head ( which I don't know how to tell if it is or not) into my W9. The head was off the W9 last year and it has the little pistons and flat top pistons. It starts and runs ok but sure could use a little more HP to compete in the 8500# and 9500#.

W9, 600, 650 lp or gas same head, that piston will take you from 5.9 up to 6.5 or 6.9 comp.If you stoke it a 1 1/2" and pull the liners and hard block, bore and hone to 4 11/16 regrind cam , custom piston, stock head gasket and with no work to head will make a honest 135HP on a stingy dyno.Socket head bolts in the stock rods and this actually is easy to clear.

Interesting stuff. 483 cubic inches if my math is right.
