Would anyone know where a person could pickup a piece of equipment or gauge that would read RPM off the brake drum of my unstyled A I use to pull, would like a reference point for 3 MPH pulls.

I have a digital tachometer from Jegs on my A. I would have to say that is some of the best $ spent on that tractor. It reads to 10rpm increments and checks the same against a photo tach or the one that clips on a spark plug wire.

I ran for awhile with a speedometer on a 20" bicycle wheel that ran under the rear axle. Honestly, I think it screwed me up more than it helped. You will spend too much time worrying about what the speedo readout says and: A) Not watch where you are going and what holes you are about to drive off into. B) Try to stay too close to the speed limit and hit a good spot in the track, pick up a couple 1/10 MPH and blow the horn. I think you are better off with just a good tach and a good gut instinct of how much you are slipping and apply throttle as necessary.

Get a GPS from Wally world for less than a hundred buck that read speed and help lead to where you are going. hmm we should know where we'er going, to the full pull line!!

RW, this sounds more like it would work better on paper than in real life. While your theory is sound it doesn"t take into effect wheel slippage or how the tire changes circumference if you change air pressure. Just some things to think about. Mike

How about picking it off of a front wheel - no slippage. A digital bicycle speedometer might do it.

When you have the wieghts right the front wheels may not be touching the ground. My tractor is at its best when the wheels are about a foot off the ground.

I got mine out of McMaster Carr. I think I payed 60 bucks or so. Work great til I dropped it on the concrete. Check out their web site.
