I want to use MM 4 5/8" pistons in my Case but they are .118 shorter. Should I stroke the crank .118 or cut 2 rods and weld two pieces back to make them .118 longer. Which is best and which is cheapest.

I have to agree with Drew. Just have a set of custom pistons built and you will have everything right. Murphys Motor Service built a forged set for my turbo M project for $500 to my specs. He turned them around in less than a month and was very good to deal with. Yours could cost more depending on the forgings that he has to use, but you will not be disappointed and you will have a piston that will never fail. By the time you spend time on all the other stuff you are talking about you will have spent the same money and could very possibly have unforseen cost. Custom builds can get expensive....been there, done that.

How about offset wrist pin bushings?

Just because you have parts or inexpensive access to parts does not always mean you need to use them. In my opinion, it sounds like you want to spend $10 to save $2. If the pistons dont have the proper compression height, find different ones, or, you can have custom pistons made with a compression height that will work better for you. It makes absolutly no sense to me why you would want to spend a bunch of money to make a set of rods or stroke a crank just a tiny bit to save a little money on pistons. By the time you get rods or a crankshaft made you could have pistons made and not mess with anything else.

If the compression height is .118" short, you would have to stroke the crankshaft .236" (2 x .118) to have the piston come to the same spot @ TDC. BUT if you stroked the crank, the piston would have to come to a slightly lower spot @ TDC to maintain the same mechanical compression ratio.
