Hello there I am 15 years old and am going to be pulling for the 1st time this summer. With a Minneapolis Moline Z and U302. Both tractors are mechanically good and have decent tires. These tractors are 100% straight from the farm and have no modifications. What can I do to the tractors, and do you have any tips for me as how to pull, i have farmed since i could walk and know how to drive the tractors but what should I look for, what gear etc. my dad and grandpa can help a little but they have little experience. Thanks in advance

WILL,every one has given you some good advice,EXCEPT The class called FARM STOCK or out of field class. These tractors rank up with NATPA Div.4 or 5 classes.(100 + HP needed)Check out or ASK someone with the pulls you are looking at to tell you what their rules are on the STOCK classes.Anyway welcome and you have two good tractors to play with.

Ditto. Farm class sucks! Cheaters...but everybody knows what goes and what doesnt so I guess that is what you have to compete with.
Other than the club I pull with calls the 100 hp tractors Antique and the PURE stock farm...I dont know why they dont just use divisions, but as long as everybody knows it works.

Welcome to pulling! There are really only two rules, be safe and have fun. Find pulls where there are Division 1 or some call it "farm stock', or "out of the field" classes. They are 1st gear only pulls. Stay out of pulls where they allow weight brackets, or other modifications to the tractors.

Look/watch at other tractors of your model, see what has been done to them, how they are weighted, hitch length/height, size of tires.

If you're going to do much pulling, I strongly suggest wheelie bars.

Good luck and be safe. When I am hooking or unhooking to sled, I put tractor in neutral and hold my hands up in air to show the guy between sled hooking/unhooking me that I'm touching NOTHING and that he is in complete control and I will wait until he tells me that he is done.

I am pretty green too, but here is what I know. Most pulls you are going to go to if they are STOCK antique pulls you will have to pull in first gear.
Look at your tracks and adjust your tire pressure accordingly.
Dont know about how a MM works, but my Farmalls are ALWAYS nose heavy. Cant get enough weight on back.

Since everything is stock and in good working order my best advice is get in the Farm Stock class, throw it in first gear, pull the throttle wide open and have a blast! try not to run into anyones ruts if you can see them.

If your gonna start pulling the tractor alot I do suggest wheelie bars.especially if you change the hitch from factory to the limits set in the rules.

As for the weights I'm not sure about a MM but I figure they should be a little nose heavy so I would probably add some to the rear. Hang 100 or so on the front if it is a good biting track. Look around in you class and see what similar tractors are doing ( if there are any ) and use that as a starting point.

Humm you know I haven't thought about that but I know a guy who has a styrofoam cutter..... LOL!!! Can you imagine what ppl would say if I had like 20-25 100# weights hanging on my tractor in 5000? LOL!!!!

As for above about the 110+hp tractors in Farm stock, yea there are some individuals who get a kick out of putting hot rods in that class by changing tires and bragging about winning but you have to ignore them and watch how you do against the ones in the class who are there to have fun. Plus if you have to pull in first gear, have a wight and tire limit heck you can pull with the big ones because they are built to pull fast not slow.

Jak as for 2nd gear, I have another 88 out here and a C series 1800 LPG... ya never know.....LMAO!!!! Are ya sweating now????? :)

Jeff,I know things are different in different locations, but I was just warning him to check the pulls out first.I'am no expert, but I have been pulling over 50 years and have been turned away or been told I'am wasting my money to stay around and try to pull in FARM STOCK classes. What I have seen is 99.9 of the tractors are NTPA hopefuls.Hopefully where you are things are different.
