M oil capacity with 1 girdle

Hey all,

I was wondering if any of you are running a girdle on an M and what the oil capacity is with the pan one inch lower. I would like to run as much oil as possible.

Yeah I missed LeRoy. Got the frame connectors and fenders finished tonight, so the chassis is done. A few little odds and ins and finish tire cuttng is all that is left, so I should make Hillsboro. You know when and where the pull is?

I could not stand to keep mine in the shop till it is finished. I can pull it ugly if it runs, so it may be another year before paint.

What questions...email me.

I'm just guessing the pull starts at 10... (which means closer to 11... ) The pull is East of town.. (East of I35) Take Hwy 22 East towards Corsicana. About 1/2 mile past I35, on Hwy 22, there's a small road to your right. (The college is on your left.) They will have signs up. Then go about 2 miles.. it will be on your left.. It turns to gravel, and you'll think you are in the wrong place.. just keep going..

I understand the concerns, but I can assure you I know what I am doing by raising the capacity; this is a high RPM turbocharged engine with grouted block and a tiny one core radiator. Adding oil adds thermal capacity...what is what I want.

Can anyone answer the capacity question?

Run it on the full mark of the dipstick. If the rad is so small and you are worried about having enough mass to absorb combustion heat. How about an running alcohol blend fuel. And carrying a few gallons of water to "boil off" as steam to absorb heat. Nothing like giving us the details a day or two after you ask the question. If you really want to add "thermal capacity" via the lube oil. How about a deeper oil pan? Have you figured out how many btu a quart of oil absorbs to be heated from 150F to 250F? And compare it to the btu's rejected by a 125HP engine running at full power for approx one minute? Plus idling around time before and after the pull. If you need to dump heat, just boil some water.

The problem with a grouted block is with the oil being able to reject heat as it normally would in the bottom of the block and lower cylinder wall area. That is what I mean by adding thermal capacity. The pan is deeper due to the girdle...hence the question.

The engine is more like 500HP and will run about 10 seconds at full power since ground speed will be around 20mph. And I am running two stages of water injection with the capability of ethanol blending....which as you mentioned will help with engine heat. However, the oil is still going to get hot quickly.

I'd be more concerned that the pickup was dropped also. The lower oil level won't hurt it if you keep the same amount in the pan.

Extra oil just takes HP as it's whipped around by the crank. And frothy oil full of air bubbles is not an ideal lubricant. Deep sump oil pans for wet engines and dry crankcase systems are used to get oil away from the rotating assembly.
