I'll start over & try one more time...can't find a #1 power block so I won't to bore an unstyled "A" block to 5 3/4...everybody says to use Cat pistons....D8 Cat pistons are over $450 each & they make 14 different pistons for the D8...where do you get these pistons & what Cat are they out of ??? Using a 37 unstyled & I don't collect...aircraft pistons don't have enough deck height with this block...thanks ...Kent

Here is a sealed power part # for a 5 3/4" d-8 cat piston 2730PN that is out of a federal mogal-sealed power 1998 catalog should be in newer book at auto parts.

the cat piston has a 2.39"pin dia. so is not a bolt in piston.

A standard 70 Gas piston at 5 7/8" would be more of a direct bolt in but you run the chance of blowing block out eventualy but the risk is plenty high on 5 3/4" also. might be able to turn 70 piston down to 5 3/4. according to some rough calculations and unless you have stroked crank the cubic inch difference from 5.625" to 5.75" is only about 16 cubic inches and about 4 horespower.

as far as other cat piston ideas call Heinrichs repair he will be able to help you.

Paul

Do they have a forging to make something that big?? A lot of places can make pistons, but when you get that big finding a forging large enough can be tough.

Built a 5 7/8" several years ago. Had to wait an extra two weeks but it was not a problem as I had to wait for the valves and push rods to made also.
