What does it take to be competitive in each Division (1,2,3,4,5) with the NATPA?

id say super h is close at 225hp in div 4.if you pull up with 85-100hp you would be in for a big surprise.....100 hp would only be 3rd gear max in a m... most run 2 or 3rd overdrive

what weight classes? 3500 div IV won't take as much HP as 8500 div II

Well, the motors can "pretty much" be the same from Div II-IV, unless you own a Deere, then you can't run a Powerblock because it says PowerBlock on it. If you have any other tractor, feel free to bore/stroke as much as you can without it showing. The only difference between Div II and III is the tires. Div II uses Cheater Cuts and Div III uses full cuts. Div IV lets you go faster and a few more RPM's.

For minimums to run at the rated speeds, I'd estimate Div II around 75HP
Div III around 85HP
Div IV around 100HP

My $0.02 worth.

maybe if all the biggest engine tractors in the country showed up at one pull!! usually yes, big HP, but you would be sirprized when a 90 hp tractor gets in with them too. Not that the 90 hp is at a disadvantage against 225,,, but if that 90 hp tractor had enough movable weight it makes is a pulling competition, not a drag race. Besides, most of the pullers that run so fast, the pull dont begin until the sled pan drops at what ever they set it to. Thats why its more of a running start to get the speeds up with the sleds so when it drops,, the speed/momentumn is more of a force than a properly weighted machine. Properly weighted tractor though,,,, can be hard to beat on any given day.
