Does it have to be a V8 to run is a V8 class? Can a 6 cyl be allowed in with the V8's? Just wondering,,

I know where there is a real nice M for sale that has a small block chevy in it. He will sell it complete or I"m sure that you could buy just the chassis. Send me a email or give me a call.

That small block chevy must be putting out some amazing HP or you have a ALOT easier starting and pulling sled than I pull on. Let's see.....8000rpm, 18.4X38 tires...4th gear....40-50mph tire speed??? I know how I have to slip the clutch in 2nd gear @2000 rpm starting off Hmmmmm , unless that chevy is putting out 7-8oohp, it's hard to believe the tractor can pull in 4th gear.

700 HP at the crank. Our class limits us to 410 cid, cast iron heads, and 1 750 cfm carb with an 8000 rpm limit. On good tracks, the IH's run 3rd but will run 4th at times. Most come off the line at about 4500-5000 rpms and have a ground speed of around 25 mph.

blowers? NOS? What weight classes? What are you using for clutches? What are you getting for wheel speed? Sounds like fun!!!

all natuarally aspirated, no NOS, and we pull at 5700# and an 18" drawbar. As far as clutches, people are using anything from a single disc clutch from Ft Wayne Clutch, twin disc hays and mcclouds, or twin disc crowers.

Check our website for more information. Rules are under Division 7 Hot Rods.

We installed a 440 Chrysler in a M last year. We had to do a little grinding on the side rails but did get engine to fit between rails without stretching rails. We had a steel flywheel built to fit M starter ring (origionall cast won't take high rpms). We used a pressure plate from a Ford diesel pickup and a heavy duty clutch plate from a M (so splines from M tranny input shaft would work).

we have an estimated 435 hp from motor. I pull in second gear, 6000rpm, 18.4X38 cut tires and have been clocked on sled at 14mph. Tractor weighs 4500# with no driver.

I have some video of it pulling, but don't know how/if it can be posted.

I have a buddy who put a 549 cu in International gas truck v8 into a McCormic W9 and then fully restored it. It took a lot of work. He built an adapter plate to make it bolt up. I believe he had to weld the tractor flywheel starter gear to the truck flywheel. I think he also had to shorten the transmission input shaft, custom throwout bearing.....on and on. I know you're IHman4ever, but you may consider a Massey Harris 55 or 44 for this project. With their divorced clutch housings and chain (or bolted flange) couplers, your options are relatively open. I have built a 55 with a 454 for myself and a 44 with a 400 small block for my buddy.
