I have started watching antique pulls a lot here in the last few years and really enjoy it. I was wondering though how come there are not many diesel tractors, I know there were antique tractors that had diesel motors. They have the high mph classes with some awesome gas tractors why not let 3010 or 4010 or equivalent red in these classes. I was just wondering and thought I would ask. Thanks everyone and keep up the good work.

technology, the newer tractors are higher hp than the older ones.
in the last 10 years technology has been hard to keep up with in diesel performance, add a turbo and the older gas tractors can not compete.
i do believe they should include them, time did not stop in 1960 so every year that passes should be another year added to the antique class.

i think it has alot to do with the 60 and older limit but the newer tractors are alot heavier than the antiques wich would make it hard for at least the clubs in our area our club has a 63 and older rule so i might be wrong here im not 100% up on the years but couldnt you pull a very early 3020 i think they started them in 62 the head of the club is an ih fan so i think he went with 63 so he can get the 460 and 560 in.

Your question is likely to open a can of worms, but this is what has been said in the past. The true antique pullers don't want the so called new generation tractors of 1960 and newer pulling with them out of fear that it will be an unfair advantage to the newer tractors and will ruin the antique class. They say people who come to antique pulls want to see the old tractors compete against old tractors. The problem is that the younger generations (pullers) don't always identify with the true antique tractors of 1960 and older, so they may in fact be losing out on potential pullers in the future. Right now that seems to be a gamble that the antique pullers are willing to take. I have been asking this same question for quite some time, and I pull both antique and new generation tractors. And believe me, most of those antique's could more than hold their own against the new generation tractors.
