Just this past weekend i removed my pump and injectors off my IH 1256 to send them away. In the process i removed the exhaust manifold and turbo. I noticed in the compressed air pipe goin back into the motor that there was a light film of what might have been oil or soot. Im not sure if there is a seal going bad or if there is a little blow by comin back up, but does any one know what this might be? And if it is bad or not?

many turbos need boost to help them seal, so one thing you can do is to avoid excess ideling.

I would say that it's the oil running out of your turbo. That isn't exactly a super tight seal. we run superfarm turbos and get quite a lot of oil residue in our pipe.

Chuck .... so its not that big of deal then casue we are just a farm stock class and its the original turbo.... i guess what im asking is.... Its not gonna blow up on me right?

Wiggle the end of the turbo shaft up and down. There should be a little bit of movement. not ALOT but just wiggle it a liitle bit like just a hair. If your turbo is bad it will probably wiggle too much. Also on a stock turbo chances are slim that it will "blow up". The shaft broke in ours once and the compresser wheel got all chewed up on the housing. It sent a lot of aluminum chips into the motor, but we just took the head off and cleaned out the valves and cylinders and it was as good as new. It never really blew and that's on a 1000 hp deere. Also I was thinking it's not unusual to have soot build up in your crossover too. It happens. Good Luck!

I think thats pretty normal as long as its not extremly oily.

OK thanks i thought it prolly wasnt a big deal because its just enough that if i whipe my finger in the pipe it leaves it a little black.... and its doesnt use any oil so.... Thanks again!!!
