This may seem odd, but was wondering if a compact tractor could compeat in an under 2500lb class being as it is a 4 wheeel drive tractor, it seems most 4 wheel drives are forbidden. My tractor is a diesel of about 20hp, lots of power when the revs are up, but could it get a sled up to speed at the given MPH. Maybe lots of clutch slip to get it there?
My tractor is about 1900 pounds as is and has lots of gears. So finding a proper gear would not be a problem.

Thanks for all the input, I agree with everything said, It may be a little front heavy, and not enough HP, so will have to think about this.

Be kind now to Japanese tractors, most tractors today under 40hp even with American names from about 20 years ago to now are made in Japan, JD , caseIH, Massey, etc are all or partly made in Japan. You can"t beat the older JD or Farmalls for being over built for the task at hand, how else could you more than triple the original HP and they stand up.

What are you going to name the tractor "TOKYO TWEISTER"?

Just for an initial pencil and paper ballpark estimate, to spin the wheels without stalling on an average track, I use:

MinimumHp = WeightClass*MPH/300

Given that you say 20 HP and 2500 lb class, you should be able to pull it slow (<2.4 mph, assuming you have the gears) and without stalling the engine. However, minimum Hp is not enough power to keep the speed up enough to keep the momentum to get through all of the the track variations or at the end of the pull to get that last foot or two that it takes to be at the top. Figure nearly double the minimum Hp to do that and be competitive with the top of the pack.

Also, I don't know how Kubota is classified in terms of "American" made. Some pulls do not allow foriegn brands. Check first.

Although hp is a big factor, traction and balance is more so. In order to be compeditive the front to rear balance should be around 33% of the weight on the front. You can find this out by weighing the front then weighing the rear on a level scale. With the extera weight of the front diff plus the deisel motor my guess is your tractor would be way heavy on the nose.

In most areas it would not meet the age requirement of at a 1960 model year or older. Some might let you pull exibition.

Farm stock classes some are fwd only, whereas the other farm stock do not allow the fwd to be engaged still allow you to pull.
