Well we are running one now that is 4 5/8 and the block is wanting to split, cylinders are eggshaped and it is losing compression. Just thought someone might have one they built, decided to go bigger and still have it. We are wanting to go a little smaller and hope to have more strength. I haven't even priced one anywhere to see what it would cost.

Sounds like you just need to find someone to do your block properly at 4.625. There is more to it than just boring it out and throwing the sleeves in. If you dont do the proper strengthening in the block the 4.5 will do the same thing might just take a little longer.

The block was done in southern Ill. I don't think is was right from day one. Do you have anyone in mind who could build one.

What about going with the 4.310 pistons?

We have a H that suffered the same fate. Sleeved block with no support at the top. the compresion balloned the top of the sleeve, above the hard block and it all came loose over time. I backed up the bore and kept it in the original block walls, hard blocked it up to the water plate and not had any trouble with any of them like that. Im sure there is a piston in a smaller bore he can use. Just depens on how big of stroke to figure out the compression height. Id say also to junk the M block and go SM-450 block. They can go 4-3/8 and have enough to run on the block, and have a pretty large stroker. Chad

Sounds like a good idea just pulling the sleeves and running on the block. My questions are this.
With a 7 3/8" stroke will you be able to notch the sleeves enough that it will clear the rods?
Also, how much would you hard block. Six cylinders I am familiar with but I have never seen the inside of a four. I appreciate any input THANKS!

Hard block up to the bottom of the water plate. I have some pictures of a IH block cut out for a stroker if that helps. How much do you want to spend on this repair???? No doubt, you will have a little money in it,,,, I know when my H did the same thing,,, I just got tired of purchasing stock in Exxon Oil cause of all the water that leaked in the oil pan when the block let go. it ran for 6 years! This time around, Im sure it will last as long as I do. If you need help on the block clearence work when you find one, give me a shout! Be happy to help. Been there, still fixing that. ChadS

Depends on what you have for rods. Been told that Merfeld has a 4.375 X 7.5 stroke setup, if thats true, then its possible with the right rod and piston combo. I think a stock rod 4.375 bore X 6.75 stroke M would be tight at the bottom of the bores,, but the stock rods are huge!!! Hope this helps,,, Chad
