In addition to the previous replies: If your tractor is hopped up a little and the Delco 12 volt starter from that era will not spin it over very well, you can bolt a starter from most 6 cylinder Deere diesels right to it. I run a JD Nipondenso Japan starter on mine. 528cid unstyled A and it spins her right over. One of the small, light gear reduction starters off the almost brand new big Deeres fit also. There are probably many other starters that will fit that cover bracket and work as well. They have kept that pattern all these years. Marcus

The easist/best wat to do it is to get an electric start flywheel and crankcase top cover/starter bracket from an early styled A (1940-1947)(sn 488,000-584,000). You can use a stock starter for the same era, use it on 12 volts and it will work just fine. Check with your buddies in your area or salvage yards, the parts shouldn't be difficult to locate as there were a number of electric start A's from that era. Mike

Take a look at the styled tractors that had the angle iron frame. '39 to '47. Those that have electric starters had them mounted on the top of the crankcase right behind the governor and right in front of the steering shaft support. Hope this helps.
