on the zenith carb, are you saying to take the piston and spring and shaft assembly out and freeze plugging the hole on the upper half and the bowl half of the carb? also, can you explain to me how this would allow the fuel to blow out of the vent tube? thanks ahead for the help.

Those carbs vary a little, look how the passage is laid out and block it off. It will suck gas through if not blocked. I have always had better luck removing them. Were you running a new fuel pump? If so you could have been over powering the needle and seat on the float, the rubber ain't as good as they once were and they won't take repeated over powering, You should have a reg. with only a couple pounds of pressure or you can put it on a switch and turn it on when you hook the tractor and not have it on all the time.

I think i have the same carb as you do. i just took the springs off the accelerator pump and put it back in the hole. been working fine for two years now.
