I run 3116 autolites when I increased the compression to 260 lbs from 215 it missed I reduced the gap to .025 and no miss is there a better plug that the gap can be increased on. I have petronix ignition. let me hear something from the motor builders , Jeff , Chad, etc

yea, good to hear from you Preacher I checked the coil it was 3ohm it's a pertronix 40k coil . I reduced the gap .005 and it's fine but would like to open it up some more. a colder plug might do have you tried a autolite 373

All iv'e ever run were Autolite 3116's and Champion D-21's. The Champions are junk, in my book. I don't know if a colder plug will help. Worth a try, though. Also, Maybe try an MSD coil, like a Blaster 2. Just paint the case black. That's what I did.
So, how have you been? I Got me a new woman and married her. Right now I'm looking for a truck to pull my tractor. Iv'e got the trailer, and I'm looking at a couple of older trucks. I should be at Callao this spring. I hope it's warmer than last time. At this rate, it will probably be 95 degrees by April. See you later.

The higher combustion pressures are blowing out the spark. Have you considered platinum plugs? Also, how is your coil? From building drag racing engines, I know that it takes a very powerful spark to arc across a wider gap at higher cylinder pressures. We actually used to cut the ground electrodes off for racing. We were running a 12:1 compression ratio, and an MSD pro power coil. It didn't idle too well, very choppy. But it ran like a scalded dog above 4000 RPM's. Check out your coil, and maybe consider replacing it. If you can, run without a resistor. The coil will fry itself if run too long, but it should hold up for a few minutes at a time. Also, maybe try a set of Bosch platinum plugs, if you can find them to fit your application. They're very resistant to fouling, and seem to last forever.

A MSD box would help start the flame front earlier,,,, Getting 3 or more zaps at the plug rather that just a single zap will help run more smoothly. They say the second spark is the actual fire signal, giving it a spark before and after the actual timed fire. More of a complete burn in the cyl. Coil output is the judgement on plug gap,, Some overpower the plug at short gaps, and more gap is needed, and low voltage coils can jump the wider gap, but only till the coil gets warmed up, or if they overheat from too much voltage going to the coil they will drop voltage output and start missing at the plugs.
