I was thinking about fixing up a Vac Case for a puller. 3 MPH weighted 38" tires #3500 class. Does anyone know if this tractor makes a desent puller in this type of class. Can I get the horsepower I need for not a lot of money.

I pulled against a vac this summer that had a motor out of a 530 in it. Im not a case guy so im familiar what motor that would be but he did exceptionally well with just 16.9-26 combine tires on it. I believe he had this tractor down to 2750 class. And as far as gearing i run a WD with 38's and im at 1/4 throttle pulling 3.5 mph

I'm running a bone stock out of the combine 201 putting out 47 hp at 540 rpm on the dyno. Running 14.9 x 38 field and roads at 3.8 mph.

slowsmoke is right about the ground speed. VAC's are really fast in first gear. There was a slower ring/pinion ratio available in the Eagle Hitch rear ends, but they are hard to find.

I pinged your email with more...

I don't think you'll turn 38" tires at 3MPH, had one that would do 4 mph with 28" tires

Slowsmoke - Can't follow your math there. HP isn't related to tire diameter, it's a simple matter of Force*Velocity.

HP = 550ft-lb/sec
HP = Force (#) * Speed (ft/sec)/550

What'd be really nice is if someone could tell you how much force there is in the chain under full load. That would be really handy to have.

If you can pull 4MPH, with the same HP, the other guy can pull 4MPH, regardless of the tires. (assuming that you can keep your engine in the correct power band). taller tires make you go faster at a given axle speed, but 4MPH = 4MPH.

My math was that the VAC I had was geared to fast to pull good at 3mph with 28" tires. so I'm GUESSING that 38" tires would have it doing 3mph at an idle. it was a comment on gearing, not HP!

If you have a 201 and some extra cubes you can!
